Ray McDonald showed us 103, the boutique hotel and cafe where he is one of the partners. Perfectly situated in Bangkok’s historic old town, 103 is a living memory of the Chinese settlers and the life they brought to this unique area. The original shophouse at 103 Soi Nana (Yaowarat) has been carefully rethought and brought back to life as a comfortable, liveable, boutique hotel and coffee shop. The property was once a Chinese merchant’s home and business, through which traditional herbal medicines were imported, blended, and offered to the working class Chinese settlers of the area. Subtle colonial Chinese details are apparent throughout the interior of 103, serving as a reminder of the former life of the building and providing a reference point for the surrounding area.

Step off the street at 103 and into a reimagined Chinese tea room for coffee, sweets, herbal tonics and cold drinks. The ground floor coffee shop and bar serves March Cold Brew coffee on tap and impeccable espresso, all made with 100% Arabica beans grown in the north of Thailand.

The ground level at 103 is the neighbourhood’s lounge, furnished to encourage you to stay, put your feet up, and sink into your own pace.
